The addition of dietary phytosterols reduces cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol. In humans, it is necessary at least 3 grams per day of phytosterols for reduction of cholesterolaemia. Thus, the daily intake of this compound added to foods indirectly assists in reducing the incidence of cardiovascular diseases.
